Please join Dr. Kimberly Sikule and other faculty and local experts for the 3rd Annual Wilderness Medicine Conference! The conference will follow Primary Care Sports, September 16.

Audience

Target audience includes: Physicians, Nurses, EMTs, Paramedics, Other Health Care Providers.

Objectives

After attending this conference, participants should be able to:

  1. Review the risks of hypothermia and how to prevent them.
  2. Describe prevention strategies for tick borne illnesses.
  3. Develop team based approaches for cervical stabilization, back boarding and fracture management in the back country.
  4. Create your own first aid kit, so you can be safe and help others in the wilderness.

In support of improving patient care, The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 7 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 7 Nursing Contact Hours.

The AAFP has reviewed 3rd Annual Wilderness Medicine Conference and deemed it acceptable for up to 7.00 In-Person, Live (could include online) AAFP Prescribed credit. Term of Approval is from 09/17/2021 to 09/17/2021. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 7 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credit for learning and change.

The University of Vermont’s Physical Therapy Program in the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science is an approved sponsor of continuing education for physical therapy.  The University of Vermont designates this activity for 7 continuing education credits for physical therapists.

This conference meets Emergency Medical Service (EMS) continuing education topic recommendations.

This course has been approved for Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) credits  through the Wilderness Medical Society. Actual credits awarded depend on personal credit needs and history.

Walk-in registration may be welcome if there is space and will incur an additional $50 fee.

Enrollment is limited; please register by August 15, 2021. An additional $50 fee will be added after that date.

Conference Syllabus

The conference syllabus will be available as an electronic download with presentations as PDF files (included with your registration fee). My Credits. You will receive a notification via email a few days prior to the conference with instructions for accessing the presentations and agenda with Zoom links. Please note: printed syllabus, paper copies of evaluations and paper CMIE certificates will not be provided.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sugarbush Resort located at 102 Forest Drive, Warren, VT. Individual guest reservations may be made by calling 800-537-8427. Please mention your participation in this course to receive the conference 20% discounted room rate. Discounted room rates expire on August 16, 2021. To ensure room choice and availability, it is recommended that you make your room reservations as soon as possible as the hotel sells out during this time of year.
