As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to bear down on the world, University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine alums are at the front line treating patients and protecting public health. We asked alums from across the country to share some of their experiences in a series on the College's blog called "Notes from the Front Line." Read more from some alums and visit the blog to read more:

Katie Dolbec, M.D.'10, talks about the strength of her team in the emergency department at UVM Medical Center. She says: "We are ready, the whole team, to face this challenge, this enemy, this virus. I went to medical school to work hard, help people, and make a difference in the world. I feel grateful and honored that this crisis has hit during my career as an emergency physician." - Read more in a post titled "COVID-19 in Vermont"

Hyunsoo No, M.D.'19, has been at the epicenter of the country's worst outbreak in New York City. Completing a preliminary medicine rotation at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, he took heart in the moments when he could celebrate: "We are now discharging those patients who came in the initial surge and playing cheerful music when they get to go home, announcing it over our loudspeakers." Read the post titled "The ICU in Flushing, Queens."

Joseph Ravera, M.D.'10, looks to the physicians and nurses of the past for reassurance in facing the unknown: "I try to find strength in all of the doctors and nurses that came before me dealing with the anxiety of a new epidemic like AIDS, polio, small pox, and the plague. Humanity was able to survive those ills through the courage of health care providers with far less medical knowledge than we have today."
