Smith, Ahern Warn of Growing Antimicrobial Resistance in VT Digger Commentary

(NOVEMBER 17, 2023) In an opinion piece published in VT Digger, infectious disease specialist Lindsay Smith, M.D., and infectious disease pharmacist John Ahern, Pharm.D., warned that antimicrobial resistance is a growing problem everywhere.

(NOVEMBER 17, 2023) With November 18 marking the beginning of the United States’ recognition of Antibiotic Awareness Week and World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, infectious disease specialist Lindsay Smith, M.D., assistant professor of medicine and director of the University of Vermont Medical Center’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, and infectious diseases pharmacist John Ahern, Pharm.D., clinical associate professor of medicine, warned in an opinion piece published in VT Digger that antimicrobial resistance is a growing problem everywhere.

“We must all do our part to limit the development and spread of antimicrobial-resistant organisms by taking and prescribing antibiotics wisely,” they wrote.
