The development of the novel COVID-19 pandemic has brought both changes and challenges for the UVM CMIE team. While the suspension of live, in-person learning has forced some of our conferences to be postponed and even cancelled, it has also spurred us into action on a project we have been wanting to address for some time – accrediting Grand Rounds for remote and recorded learning!
Just one of many dramatic effects this virus has had on our nation is the transition to working remotely, including the CMIE staff. At the same time, the medical providers we serve need to be able to continue their learning remotely. We are challenged but also excited to bring this project to fruition quickly so post-graduate medical education can continue to be available in Vermont during this time when presenters and learners cannot be physically present.
UVM CMIE is now working together with RSS activity directors at the University of Vermont Medical Center to make their Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS – Grand Rounds) virtual and available in real-time for credit. Departments that are using Zoom or other platforms for virtual meetings are sending connection links to their regular learners, and credit is claimed in the same manner as if the learner attended in person.
In addition, we are helping UVMMC and health network partners to make some of their Grand Rounds into recorded sessions that meet the requirements for continuing medical education credit. As soon as these new programs are approved and created, departments will notify their learners. UVM Health Network employees will be able to log-in to the CMIE vLIFE Online Library with their hospital credentials to “attend” sessions they missed.
