CTS Requirements for Thesis/Dissertation Content

Thesis Content requirement for MS

Students must comply with all Graduate College requirements for writing and defending a thesis in the Journal Article format. The thesis must include a minimum of three chapters as described below. The Comprehensive Literature review and the article(s) must be suitable for publication.

  1. A Comprehensive Literature Review will precede the individual article(s) to provide an integrated perspective to the total body of research and literature. This chapter should be prepared as a review article with a peer-reviewed journal in mind.
  2. The main body of the thesis will include one or more articles in approved journal or periodical style.
  3. A  final chapter will include a brief summary discussion of the findings within the context of the current field and/or the translational implications, and recommendations for future research.
  4. A Comprehensive Bibliography in alpha order by last name of author is required. Each article (including the Literature Review) will contain its own Reference section in addition to the Comprehensive Bibliography.

Dissertation content requirement for PhD

Students must comply with all Graduate College requirements for writing and defending a dissertation in the Journal Article format. The dissertation will include a minimum of four chapters as described below. The Comprehensive Literature review and the articles must be suitable for publication.

  1. A Comprehensive Literature Review will precede the individual articles to provide an integrated perspective to the total body of research and literature. This chapter should be prepared as a review article with a peer-reviewed journal in mind.
  2. The main body of the dissertation will include two or more articles in approved journal or periodical style.
  3. A final chapter will include a brief summary discussion of the findings within the context of the current field and/or the translational implications, and recommendations for future research.
  4. A Comprehensive Bibliography in alpha order by last name of author is required. Each article (including the Literature Review) will contain its own Reference section in addition to the Comprehensive Bibliography.
