New University of Vermont College of Medicine Senior Associate Dean for Research Gordon Jensen, M.D., Ph.D., was officially welcomed to the College at a special reception held February 4, 2016 that also honored the many contributions of Russell Tracy, Ph.D., professor of pathology, who served as interim senior associate dean for research from 2014 until Jensen’s arrival in January 2016.
Jensen, who has an appointment as professor of medicine and also as professor of nutrition and food sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, joined UVM after serving for eight years in a number of faculty and leadership capacities at Penn State University in the Department of Nutritional Sciences and at Penn State College of Medicine and Hershey Medical Center. His research accomplishments in the areas of obesity and nutrition earned him a 2014 Jonathan Rhoads Lecture from the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Tracy, who also served as the College’s senior associate dean for research and academic affairs from 2001 to 2009, managed his interim role for the College in addition to serving as vice chair for research in the Department of Pathology and director of the Laboratory for Clinical Biochemistry Research. In November 2015, Tracy was honored with an American Heart Association Distinguished Scientist Award for his accomplishments in the field of cardiovascular molecular and genetic epidemiological studies.
The February 4 event also featured the unveiling of the new Hoehl Gallery Steinway grand piano – a gift from the estate of UVM College of Medicine alumnus Thomas Sullivan, M.D.’66. Three members of the UVM College of Medicine community played in this debut performance, including medical student Anita Li ’19, Department of Surgery staff member Rejeanne Jalbert, and Martin LeWinter, M.D., professor of medicine.
