Tuberculosis Screening

Policy 670.20

Policy Statement

All medical students are required to undergo baseline tuberculosis (TB) testing per the AAMC Standardized Immunization Form within three months prior to the August 1 matriculation requirements deadline. Students are required to undergo repeat TB testing prior to entering the Clerkship Level and annually thereafter as per local health department and clinical site requirements. Students exempt from annual testing include a positive interferon gamma release assay, a positive TB skin test, or prior history of latent or active TB. A history of the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine is not a contraindication to testing. In the event of a positive TB test, students should contact Student Health Services for further evaluation and treatment.
