(APRIL 25, 2023) Mary Cushman, M.D., M.Sc., professor of medicine and of pathology & laboratory medicine, is a co-author of a study on COVID-19 vaccines and their alleged risk of causing blood clots that was highlighted in World Today News. The study confirmed that — contrary to the claims of anti-vaxxers — vaccines against COVID-19 present only a very minimal risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), or blood clots; and furthermore, that becoming infected with COVID-19 is what actually creates a significant risk of blood clots.
Led by researchers from the State University of New York at Buffalo with co-authors from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Knowledge-Based Systems, the Western New York VA Health Care System, Harvard Medical School, and UVM’s Larner College of Medicine, the study was published February 1 in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Science.
This research was also covered in The Good Men Project.
