Simulation Facilities

schedulebutton200_006Schedule a simulation The Clinical Simulation Laboratory is located on the second floor of the Rowell and Given Buildings on the University of Vermont campus and adjacent to The University of Vermont Medical Center. Located in 9,000 square feet of space are inpatient rooms, an ER/OR/MICU/SICU training room, skills labs, control center and debrief/meeting rooms. The outpatient rooms are just a corridor away, with 12 exam rooms set up to support simulated patient encounters using standardized patients and mannequin simulators. A satellite simulation lab is located at The University of Vermont Medical Center on the fifth floor of the McClure building, and a fully outfitted ambulance (the Simbulance) is also available for training.

virtualrealityroomVirtual Reality Room

Simulators with computer generated 3-D graphics provide realistic training environments to help learners practice skills in laparoscopy, hip and shoulder arthroscopy, colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy, bronchoscopy, including endobronchial ultrasound and laparoscopic robotic surgery.

tasktrainerroomTask Trainer Room

Users learn a variety of procedural skills including drawing blood, wound care, lumbar puncture, joint injection, central line insertion, IV placement, arterial blood draw, chest tube insertion, and airway management. All learners practice skills sets before working with patients, to learn a new procedure or to refresh their skills.

MultiPurposeRoom125x83Multi Purpose Room

From Operating Room to Emergency Room to Medical Intensive Care Unit to Surgical Intensive Care Unit to Delivery Room, this fully equipped space can be transformed to meet the need of the learner.

virtualhospitalVirtual Hospital

The Virtual Hospital has six patient rooms, one with an attached bathroom. Students enter from the outside hallway during a simulation while faculty and simulation technicians sit behind one way glass to operate the manikin and run the simulation.

OutpatientTable125x83Virtual Outpatient Clinic

The Clinic has 12 exam rooms containing an AV system, one way glass, headphones and a centrally located control station to allow monitoring in each room. Computers are located outside each room for students to complete pre- and post-encounter activities as well as inside each room for the Standardized Patients to complete their evaluations.

ControlRoom125x83Control Room

Each room has 2 cameras, one fixed and one that can tilt and zoom. Video and audio recording is available in 4 out of our 7 rooms. Recordings are reviewed with learners during the debriefing session.

DebriefRoom125x83Debrief Room

Debriefing is the heart and soul of a simulation exercise. During a debriefing session learners are asked to reflect on the actions that they took during the simulation and discuss key learning points which can then be applied to real life situations.

McClure Training125x83McClure Teaching Room

A simulation room located at our teaching hospital provides a convenient location for residents and nurses to train and conduct research. The location includes an inpatient room, attached control room and conference room with a one way mirror.

Taking the simulation show on the road! Our converted ambulance, the “Simbulance”, provides the setting for realistic patient transport scenarios as well as bringing our equipment to area hospitals and other off-site locations.
