2017 Current Concepts & Controversies in Surgery

Overview

This conference is designed to present current clinical management issues in surgical patients for the general surgeon in practice, primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals in the field.

Registration is limited to allow personal contact with the faculty in order that each participant will be able to tap the resources available for his/her own clinical scenarios.

Objectives

Following this conference, participants attending this course should be able to:

  • Identify criteria for selecting appropriate surgery for axillary lymph nodes in patients with breast cancer.
  • Identify criteria for selecting patients with rectal cancer for rectal preserving procedures.
  • Describe special considerations for pregnant patients needing general surgical procedures.
  • Describe management options for patients with achalasia.
  • Describe management options for patients with complex rib fractures.

Accreditation

The University of Vermont College of Medicine is accredited by the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 10 Nursing Contact Hours.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

Determination of Pharmacotherapeutic credit is pending.

A block of beautifully appointed rooms has been reserved at the Stowe Mountain Lodge. Please call the Lodge by December 24 (888-478-6938 or 802-760-4755) and indicate your participation in this course to obtain our discounted rates: $305 plus 10% state and local tax, single or double occupancy, for studio accommodations. There is a $10 daily parking charge. Room rates cannot be guaranteed after December 24. To ensure room choice and availability, it is recommended that you make your room reservations as soon as possible. 

Conference Syllabus

The conference syllabus will be available for download electronically (no extra charge). Alternatively, you may elect to buy a flash drive with pdf versions of the talks ($15) or a printed syllabus ($50). Please bring your laptop or other device to view the electronic or flash drive presentations. Extra copies of the printed syllabus will not be available. Closer to the conference you will receive instructions on how to access the PDF files of the presentations.

Fees

  • $575 Physicians
  • $350 PA, Nurse, etc.
  • $250      Residents (verification of residency status required)

This fee includes all course syllabus via electronic download, coffee breaks and reception. Add $75 late fee after December 15, 2016.

Refunds, minus an administrative fee of $75, are available if cancellation is made prior to January 2, 2017.  No refunds are possible after that date.
