16th Annual Northern New England Critical Care Conference

This course is designed to address important clinical issues encountered while delivering critical care. All ICU healthcare professionals physicians, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory therapists, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants) will be given up-to-date and practical information relative to daily management of the critically ill patient. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions.


At the end of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Review and discuss appropriate management of stroke and head injury.
  • Formulate a treatment strategy to reverse anticoagulation in the setting of intracranial hemorrhage.
  • Identify safe handling equipment used and typical progression of activity for early mobility in the ICU.
  • Review and discuss strategies for managing refractory hypoxemia.
  • Learn basics of the use of ultrasound in undifferentiated shock.
  • Discuss areas of controversy with regard to brain death.
  • Review the conceptual basis for the equivalency of brain death and human death.
  • Debate ethical ways to resolve complex cases in clinical ethics from the intensive care unit.

Optional Workshop - Thoracic POCUS - Fundamentals of US Guided Life Support

An optional Thoracic POCUS workshop will be offered which will include rotation through practical stations, offering hands-on instruction and experience. Enrollment is limited.
