Overview
This course is designed to address important clinical issues encountered while delivering critical care. All ICU healthcare professionals physicians, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory therapists, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants) will be given up-to-date and practical information relative to daily management of the critically ill patient. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions.
Course Objectives
* Review and discuss the evaluation and management of patients in shock, with a focus on septic shock.
* Review and discuss strategies for fluid resuscitation and determination of volume status.
* Review, discuss, and practice techniques for safely obtaining a secure airway in critically ill patients.
* Review the complexities of managing pain in critically ill patients, in the context of our societal problem with opioids.

Strategies for the Opioid-Tolerant Patient
Optional Airway Management Workshop
An optional airway management workshop will be offered which will include rotation through practical stations, offering hands-on instruction and experience. Enrollment is limited.
Workshop Objectives
* Demonstrate a variety of devices to use to secure an airway.
* Gain hands-on experience with these devices using anatomical models.

Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the
Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American
Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for
the healthcare team.
The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The American College of Emergency Physicians has approved this activity for a maximum of 13.5 ACEP Category I credits.
This program has been prior approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for 13.50 Class A CE credits; Code Number 1035291; Expiration Date 10/14/2017.
The State of Vermont Board of Respiratory Therapists has approved this course for a maximum of 12.0 credit hours.
This conference includes .50 credits in Prescribing Controlled Substances and 3.25 credits in Hospice, Palliative Care, Pain Management.
This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 13.5 Nursing Contact Hours.
