I’m pleased to tell you that our own Dr. Tim Plante received the Sandra Daugherty Award for Excellence in Hypertension or Epidemiology at the AHA Epidemiology/Lifestyle conference in Chicago yesterday! His abstract was presented as an oral presentation today and was based on his research funded by the CVRI Bloomfield Professorship, “Inflammatory cytokines and incident hypertension in the REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) study.”

Cardiac remodeling, chronic kidney disease, brain cell energy generation, hypertension and stroke risk, and socioeconomic status and cardiac rehabilitation outcomes, were the topics presented at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Vermont’s annual Viridis Montis Early Career Investigator Challenge on February 2, 2022.

Marilyn Cipolla, Ph.D., professor of neurological sciences at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, has been appointed chair of the Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering in the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.

The Larner College of Medicine medical student Class of 2024 celebrated its completion of the Foundations Level of the Vermont Integrated Curriculum with a virtual celebration and awards presentation on January 27, 2022.
