(MAY 19, 2019) For the past nearly four years, members of the Class of 2019 absorbed vast amounts of information, honed and demonstrated skills and comprehension, and experienced the dynamics of patient interactions and interprofessional health care teams. On Sunday, May 19, these newest graduates of the University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine were able to take on the official title of “Doctor.”

The Larner College of Medicine’s Class of 2019 Honors Night on May 13 was all about celebrating achievements. Medical students, leaders, faculty members, family and friends gathered for the event in UVM’s Davis Center to honor the recipients of individual student awards, faculty awards, a staff award, and a department award, as well as recognize the new student inductees for the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society.

(April 24, 2019) WCAX featured the Larner College of Medicine research studies currently be conducted in relation to slowing the progressing of pulmonary fibrosis. Prema Menon, M.D., UVM assistant professor of medicine, spoke about the study saying, "We're creating these mini lungs and looking at if these new patented catalysts can actually reverse fibrosis in humans, which is such a step forward in the research".

After 18 months of active-learning in the classroom, primary care offices around Vermont, and clinical skills sessions in the Clinical Simulation Laboratory at the University of Vermont, the UVM Larner College of Medicine Class of 2021 was excited, if not a bit nervous, to start working more regularly and directly with patients and physicians in clinical settings. Investigators in UVM's Vaccine Testing Center and Center for Translational Global Infectious Disease Research (TGIR) have uncovered details of the human immune response to infection with dengue - a close "cousin" of the Zika virus - which 40 percent of the global population is at risk for contracting. Their study findings were reported recently in the Lancet’s open-access journal EBioMedicine.
