Electrophysiology
Our research in this area has focused on the following: characterization of potassium ion channel function as it relates to cardiac repolarization and the long QT syndrome; elucidation of mechanisms underlying paroxysmal atrial fibrillation; and development of clinical ablation for treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation based in part on analyses utilizing single cell electrophysiology and superfused tissue physiology.
The development of mapping and ablation techniques for treatment of arrhythmias following repair of complex congenital heart disease, atriotomy, accessory AV pathways has led to improved treatment of diverse arrhythmias.
Our research also includes participation in numerous multicenter trials and clinical studies that are designed to continue to improve therapies. Having the ability to participate in clinical trials often gives patients access to cutting edge technologies that are not readily available elsewhere, or it gives patients added satisfaction to know that they are helping to further our ability to help future generations.
