Four Larner College of Medicine faculty were honored recently at the Vermont Medical Society’s annual meeting, including Stephen Leffler, M.D., Frank Ittleman, M.D., Barbara Frankowski, M.D., M.P.H., and Eliot Nelson, M.D. ​

A press conference announcing a $1 million lead gift from the New England Federal Credit Union to support a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the UVM Children’s Hospital garnered coverage in several regional news outlets.

WPTZ NBC5 News highlighted remarks made by Jan Carney, M.D., M.P.H., UVM associate dean for public health at a December 11 vigil organized by Gun Sense Vermont. Rebecca Bell, M.D., UVM assistant professor of pediatrics also spoke at the event, which was held in remembrance of all the people whose lives have been changed by gun violence in all of the 50 states.

On December 11, 2018 at the University of Vermont Medical Center, former patients of the UVM Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), their families, clinicians and hospital leaders, gathered to celebrate a $1 million donation from New England Federal Credit Union. The donation kicks off a project to renovate the UVM Children’s Hospital’s NICU.

Kathryn Huggett, Ph.D., director of the Teaching Academy at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, has announced the names of 16 new members of the Teaching Academy.

UVM Assistant Professor of Surgery Thomas Ahern, Ph.D., is the recipient of one of 76 St. Baldrick's Foundation grants totaling more than $19.1 million to support studying innovative treatment options in the pediatric cancer space.

The last of three 2017 Celebrating Excellence in Research events held at the College on November 10 and 13, 2017, the awards ceremony recognized the accomplishments of faculty, residents, medical students, graduate students and postdoctoral trainees.

On August 10, Thomas Delaney, Ph.D., an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UVM spoke with VPR's Vermont Edition about the link between gun safety and suicide prevention.

Kennith Sartorelli, M.D., a professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Surgery at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, and division chief of pediatric surgery and surgeon-in-chief at the UVM Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital, was invested in a formal ceremony on June 2 as the inaugural Green and Gold Professor of Pediatric Surgery.

NBC News recently highlighted UVM Larner College of Medicine Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Rebecca Bell, M.D., in an article titled, "Vermont Doctor Handles Vaccine Skeptics With a Listen-First Approach."

Dr. Lewis R. First, professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, has been named by the UVM Alumni Association as the 2017 recipient of its George V. Kidder Outstanding Faculty Award.

Jonathan Flyer, M.D., a pediatric cardiologist at the UVM Children's Hospital and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Larner College of Medicine at UVM, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) in recognition of his professional achievement and commitment to quality cardiovascular care.

Karin Gray, M.D., is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and a pediatric hospitalist and medical director of the newborn nursery at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Anne Johnston, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics at the Larner College of Medicine at UVM, provided comments regarding neonatal abstinence syndrome and treating opioid-addicted mothers in a New York Times article, titled “Rise in Infant Drug Dependence Is Felt Most in Rural Areas.”

The newest members of the Teaching Academy at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont were inducted during a ceremony and dinner held January 5, 2017 that kicked off the Snow Season Education Retreat at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center.
