The Department is housed within the
College of Medicine‘s complex of research buildings, which adjoins the University of Vermont Medical Center. The research within the department is particularly well funded, in recognition of its world-class reputation. Specialized facilities and centers are supported by a number of labs, with state-of-the-art capabilities in single molecule force and motion recording, single fluorophore detection and polarization measurement, confocal microscopy of intracellular calcium, protein crystallization and X-ray structural analysis, molecular biology and protein biochemistry of myosin, and the generation and study of transgenic animals. The department itself consists of a number of contiguous laboratories, offices, and conference rooms with state-of-the-art multimedia capacity.
