Overview

Please join us for this 25th annual conference which will provide anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, and anyone with an interest in the field of anesthesia with practical reviews and timely informative clinical updates on a variety of topics of current interest. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions. Faculty includes recognized experts in their fields, both on a national level and from the University of Vermont. The atmosphere will be friendly and informal and there will be ample time for questions and discussion with faculty and colleagues.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the latest information in enhanced recovery after cesarean section delivery.
  • Updated knowledge in ACLS related to anesthesia providers.
  • Conversant in regional anesthesia techniques for critically ill as well as healthy patients.
  • Understand the current theories on neuromodulation in the treatment of chronic pain.
  • Able to discuss the concepts and philosophy of “placebo anesthesia”.
  • Updated knowledge on current state of spinal cord protection in aortic surgical procedures.
  • Updated knowledge on the latest data concerning operating room attire.
  • Conversant in the latest theories on post-operative delirium and cognitive decline.
  • Updated knowledge on vaping-related lung injury.
  • Conversant in new concepts of myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery.
  • Understand new information about regional anesthesia from clinical registries.

Jointly Accredited Provider TMIn support of improving patient care, The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 16 Nursing Contact Hours.

MOCA 2.0® credit will be offered after successful completion of the evaluation component for an additional fee of $25.

This conference includes 1 credit in Hospice, Palliative Care, Pain Management.

NEW THIS YEAR! Poster Competition

This year, to celebrate the 25th year of its inception, we are holding a poster competition for students in anesthesiology including medical students, residents, SRNAs and AAs. This is an excellent opportunity for trainees to submit a clinical case or a research or a QI Project as a poster; to network, engage in stimulating conversations, and experience what this conference has to offer. Judging for the competition will take place after the last morning lecture on Saturday March 7, 2020. Hotel Information

A block of beautifully appointed rooms has been reserved at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa in Stowe, Vermont, named a Top 25 Resort in New England by Condé Nast Traveler. Please make your reservations directly with the Stoweflake (800-253-2232) prior to February 7, 2020 and indicate your participation in the Anesthesia Conference to receive special discounted rates: $274 plus state and local tax for single or double occupancy for studio accommodations. Suites are also available for an additional cost. The nightly guestroom rate includes daily access to the Spa Lounge at Stoweflake, as well as access to the Sports & Wellness Center. There are no resort fees, no parking fees, and no WIFI fees. A two-night minimum stay is required. Room rates cannot be guaranteed after February 7, 2020. To ensure room choice and availability, it is recommended that you make your room reservations as soon as possible.

Winter Activities in Stowe

Discounted ski ticket coupons will be available by email only and sent to the email address you used to register prior to the start of the conference. You may either print or take your mobile device to the mountain for redemption along with proof of participation in the Anesthesia Conference (registration confirmation and/or conference nametag acceptable). Coupons may be used towards the purchase of lift tickets only and maybe redeemed at Mansfield Base Lodge or Spruce Base Camp.

Equipment rentals and adult/child ski school lessons (pre-registration required) can be purchased online in advance to receive the best rate possible. Payment will be made directly to the mountain.

Tuition fee includes all course materials, continental breakfasts, coffee breaks each day, and the Johns’ Fund Reception on Saturday evening. Refunds, minus an administrative fee of $75, will be made only if notice of cancellation is received in writing by February 6, 2020. Refunds are not possible after that date. *Proof of residency required by program director.

The conference syllabus will only be available as an electronic download with presentations as PDF files. Please plan to bring your laptop or electronic device with you to the conference to view both the conference materials as well as to complete the online conference evaluations via the UVM CMIE credit system. You will receive an email notification (via the email you used to register for this conference) about a week prior to the conference start date that presentations will be available for downloading. Please note: Printed syllabus, paper copies of evaluations and paper CMIE certificates will not be provided.
