The Visiting Student Elective Scholarship Program (VSESP)

The Larner College of Medicine believes that a strategic investment in diversifying and mentoring the pool of potential residents will help build a strong pipeline for future residents, fellows and faculty. The Visiting Student Elective Scholarship Program (VSESP)Medical Students and Residentsponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and faculty at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) provides support for fourth year medical students from groups underrepresented in medicine.

VSESP is designed to:

• Increase awareness of opportunities in academic medicine in Vermont for underrepresented medical students;
• Provide clinical exposure within UVMMC during a month long elective;
• Provide $2,500 to defray costs related to the visiting clerkship;
• Diversify the pool of residents potentially making a positive impact on the future diversity of our fellows and faculty

Eligible students include fourth-year medical students in good standing who are enrolled in a U.S. LCME accredited allopathic institution (enrolled in a medical degree granting program) and who are from URM groups. These groups include Hispanic (Mexican, Chicano or mainland Puerto Rican), other Hispanic (Cuban, Dominican or other), Black/African-American (not of Hispanic origin), Native American or Asian Pacific Islander.
