Education

MCCRE researchers are experts in Cannabis education. We offer Cannabis education for UVM students, medical providers and industry professionals with an evidence-based curriculum taught by academic and industry content-matter experts. The University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine was the first medical school in the country to offer classes in Cannabis science. At the forefront of academic health care, these programs address the emerging need for evidence-based medical cannabis education through programs like the following:

This in person class provides an introduction to the pharmacology underlying recreational and medicinal uses of cannabis. Topics focus on cannabis taxonomy, chemistry of cannabinoids, physiological effects, and emerging therapeutic applications. Class discussions include historical, political and socio-economic influences on Cannabis legislation.

Developed at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, our professional certificate in cannabis and medicine filled the need for evidence-based cannabis education. This seven-week, online professional certificate is designed for professionals looking to better understand how plant chemicals are created, and how they affect the human body.

Created in UVM’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences by leaders in Cannabis agriculture, this 8-week, fully online evidence-based program covers cannabis chemicals, genetics, agricultural best practices, post-harvest handling, processing, as well as how cannabis effects the human body through learning basic pharmacology and examining the different modes of administration.

UVM faculty frequently present different aspects of Cannabis science. How Cannabis Affects the Body & the Brain, presented by Peter Jackson, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Karen Lounsbury, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmacology provides an example of MCCRE faculty presentations.

In 2016 Cannabis science evidence-based Cannabis education was not available. UVM took the initiative to provide a free series of talks that discussed the history, policies, science and emerging dynamics around Cannabis.

MCCRE educators are excited to use their experience and partner with industry professionals to develop a content-specific certificate program exclusive to individual companies.
