By this time next week, UVM Larner College of Medicine medical students Katie Callahan '21 and Nina Dawson '21 will be 6,971 miles away from Vermont in Kampala, Uganda. The students are participating in the first-year summer Global Health elective through the Global Health Program at the Larner College of Medicine and Western Connecticut Health Network.
In this two part series, we'll hear from both students about their expectations before they leave and, when they return, about their experiences when they arrive in Uganda.

On May 20, 2018, students in the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont Class of 2018 received their medical degrees at Dean Frederick Morin's final Commencement ceremony. Nearly 1000 attendees gathered for the event in UVM’s Ira Allen Chapel, where the day’s earlier gray skies and rain cleared to reveal bright sunshine at the close of the ceremony.

Graduating medical students from the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont gathered with leaders, faculty members, family and friends on May 14 at the Class of 2018’s Honors Night event in UVM’s Davis Center. In addition to individual student awards, faculty awards, a staff award, and a department award presentation, the event featured the induction of students into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society.
