More than 90 primary care clinicians and other healthcare professionals in the community came together for the 12th Annual Child Psychiatry in Primary Care Conference on Friday, May 4 at the Hampton Inn in Colchester, Vt.

(APRIL 10, 2019) Community Medical School is a health and healthcare focused public lecture series that occurs on the first Tuesday of each month from March through May and September through November. Last Tuesday, Eli Goldberg, a medical student in the class of 2020 joined panelists A. Evan Eyler, M.D., a UVM professor of psychiatry and family medicine, Kate Jerman, M.P.H., the director of the LGBTQA Center at UVM, and Lola Houston, a UVM standardized patient and Burlington-based relationship coach for a special panel presentation, "Transgender Health & Healthcare: Transitioning to Affirmative Care." The topic is one that Goldberg is an expert on both as a medical student and as a member of the transgender community.

On Thursday, March 29, 2018 the University of Vermont Department of Surgery held the 48th Annual Surgery Senior Major Scientific Program in the University of Vermont Medical Center’s Austin Auditorium. At an awards luncheon following the program UVM Larner College of Medicine Class of 2018 students Miles Grunvald, Brianna Spencer, and Samy Ramadan were honored with Senior Surgery Major Awards for their presentations.

“Integrative Pain Management: National Experts, Local Focus,” a first-ever conference presented by UVM Integrative Health, introduced new standards for assessing and treating pain and showed more than 250 participants how research-based therapies including acupuncture, meditation and yoga can help calm the nervous system for better health on Saturday, April 7 at the Dudley H. Davis Student Center.

Claude Deschamps, M.D., president and CEO of the University of Vermont Health Network Medical Group (UVMHN Medical Group) and senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the Larner College of Medicine has announced that Cheung Wong, MD, associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences, has accepted the role of associate vice president for clinical affairs for the UVM Health Network Medical Group.

Each year, hundreds of submissions are considered for the electronic poster competition sponsored by the medical journal The Lancet Global Health at the Consortium of Universities for Global Health Conference in Washington, Dc. This year, UVM Larner College of Medicine medical student Alexandra Miller '18 and her team beat 543 submissions to become one of 8 award winners with their poster "Cervical Cancer Screening in Rural Tanzania; A Capacity Building Project."

On March 24, sixty students from six Vermont high schools attended the fourth annual Health Career Exploration Day at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. The event was hosted by the Larner College of Medicine MedMentors Student Interest Group and UVM's Area Health Education Centers Program.
