High Value Care Program
The Department of Medicine High Value Care (HVC) Program started in 2012. Over 14 projects have been completed resulting in improved patient care and a reduction of over $500,000 annually in health care costs. Past project include:
- Reduction of colonoscopies for patients >75 years old
- Adherence to Bone Density Scanning criteria
- Elimination of creatinine screening for inpatient dialysis patients
- Reduction of routine chest x-rays in the ICU for intubated patients
- Reduction of routine repeat echocardiograms on inpatients
- Reduction of staging scans for Breast Cancer Patients
- Elimination of duplicate Hep C and Hep A testing
The success of this program is directly related to the willingness and dedication of the Department of Medicine faculty and trainees to propose and participate in these projects. The projects also provide valuable opportunities for scholarship.
