Physician Placement Services
The University of Vermont Medical Center residents and fellows seeking to practice in Vermont, in any specialty, have access to the AHEC Physician Placement Professional, Jennifer Gaudreau. Placement services include: letting residents/fellows know
where the physician openings are in their specialty, connecting them to the appropriate contact for the opening, and letting them know about national and state educational loan repayment opportunities for primary care positions.

Educational Loan Repayment Program
The Vermont Educational Loan Repayment Program for Healthcare Professionals is funded by the State of Vermont through the Department of Health, and is administered by the Larner College of Medicine Area Health Education Centers (AHEC)
Program. The goal of this program is to ensure a stable and adequate supply of healthcare practitioners to meet the health care needs of Vermonters.

Vermont AHEC Health Care Workforce Recruitment and Networking Day
Approximately 40 health care organizations participate in this annual fall event at the University of Vermont to foster connections between health care organizations and health professions students, medical residents and fellows. The event provides
a forum to discuss career opportunities, clinical rotations, and community-based projects.
The Freeman Medical Scholars Program
The purpose of the Freeman Medical Scholars Program is to meet the needs of Vermonters by assisting medical students who matriculated at the Larner College of Medicine in the classes of 2001-2012 to become Vermont physicians, especially in
rural and underserved areas.
In 2000 the Freeman Foundation and Family began a scholarship program at the Larner College of Medicine which has proven to be a lasting investment in health care for the state of Vermont. For over a decade, scholarships were provided to
hundreds of Larner College of Medicine students who promised to return to practice in Vermont. The final group of Freeman Scholar medical students graduated in May 2012.

The investment made by the Freeman Medical Scholars Program is paying off. Currently, 146 Freeman Medical Scholars are in practice serving Vermonters. Our Physician Placement Professional, Jennifer Savage, connects with Freeman Medical
Scholars still in training to learn of their practice interests and then matches them to the practices in Vermont where they are needed.
The Freeman Foundation Legacy Medical Scholarship has been established in honor of the Freeman Foundation and Family and aims to continue the legacy of their philanthropy at the University of Vermont in providing resources to recruit and
retain physicians to serve the health care needs of Vermonters.
