Gordon Jensen, M.D., Ph.D., senior associate dean for research at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, today announced that Eric Gagnon, M.Ed., M.S.S., has been appointed director of facilities administration and projects in the Dean’s Office at the College of Medicine, effective June 1, 2018. In this role, Gagnon will provide leadership for direct administrative and operational activities, including oversight of physical assets, construction and renovation projects, and space management for the College. He succeeds Sue Ligon, who is retiring after serving the College for more than 24 years.

Gagnon has been the administrator for the Department of Medicine at the UVM Larner College of Medicine and UVM Medical Center since 2001, with responsibilities including the administration for more than 150,000 feet of clinical, research and administrative space across four campuses; oversight of financial and administrative operations, including budget leadership; and facilitating the management of Department of Medicine research initiatives, including those taking place in the UVM Cancer Center, Vermont Lung Center, Vermont Center for Immunology and Infectious Diseases, the Vaccine Testing Center, and Vermont Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

In addition to his role at UVM over the past 17 years, Gagnon has been an active member of the Vermont Army National Guard for the past 25 years and is the recipient of several prestigious honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Global War on Terror Campaign Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and English from UVM in 1999, a Master of Education degree focused on Higher Education Leadership & Administration from Norwich University in 2002, and a Master of Strategic Studies focused on Economics and National Security from the U.S. Army War College in 2017.

Gagnon has also served in several leadership capacities on committees at the College and University, including helping launch the Department of Medicine’s SPARK-VT Program in 2012 and his current role as co-chair of UVM’s SPARK-VT Program Steering Committee, as well as service on the College’s Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Planning Committee, the Office of the Vice President for Research Entrepreneurship Forum and the University Business Council Effort Reporting Subcommittee.

“We are fortunate to have such an experienced administrator and long-time staff member join the Dean’s Office team to take on the important role of overseeing and leading our many construction, renovation and space initiatives,” said Jensen in his announcement.
