Welcome to the UVM Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET) Study
Many people with opioid use disorder (OUD) experience traumatic events. The purpose of this research study is to determine whether a behavioral treatment for adults with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is effective for people who are receiving methadone or buprenorphine for the treatment of OUD.
This study is being conducted by the University of Vermont and eligible participants will be asked to complete an initial intake visit that will take about 3 hours plus three monthly follow-up assessments that can take place either in the University Health Center (UHC) or remotely via phone or UVM’s Zoom platform. This research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and is being conducted by the Vermont Center on Behavior and Health within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont.
We are recruiting people, 18 and older, who are currently receiving methadone or buprenorphine and have experienced a traumatic event. In addition to continued methadone or buprenorphine maintenance and monthly follow-up visits, some participants will have access to one 60-minute therapy session per week for 12 weeks. Eligible participants will receive compensation of $240-$1,160 for completion of the study.
